Club Descriptions

  • A safe, welcoming, and inclusive space designed to provide students with a quiet and comfortable environment to focus on their studies.

  • Arts & Crafts Club welcomes all students in grades 5-8, who enjoy art through seasonal crafts and upcycling.  This club  not only promotes imagination and originality through craft making, but also encourages  socialization with peers of varying grade levels. 

     

  • Creative Writing Workshop is designed to give students a space to write their own creative pieces, share their work with others, give feedback to their peers, share writing that appeals to them, and help choose and contribute pieces for The Write Stuff digital magazine. Open to students in grades 5-8.

  • Dance For Your Health is a welcoming environment for any student who is interested in engaging in exercise through dance. Each meeting, we dance to instructional videos from our favorite music genres, movies and games. There is no dance experience or learned routines required. Bring a friend!

  • The ITMMS Debate Team is both a fun-filled club and a competitive team! We meet weekly to debate with each other, and we also travel a few times during the school year to compete against other schools! Bring your Chromebooks for researching the debate topics each week, and be ready to wrestle with your words!

  • Students in grades 5-8 can sign up to be mentors for students new to Island Trees who speak languages other than English. Responsibilities include welcoming peers, helping them find their classes, checking in to make sure they are doing well.

  • Home & Careers Club provides students practice in safe and sanitary recipe preparation while expanding knowledge of measuring, kitchen tools, methods and time management.

  • Homework Club provides a quiet and structured environment for students to focus on their studies and develop effective study habits. It’s a great place to stay organized, manage your time efficiently, and build confidence in your academic skills. Join us to make homework more manageable and boost your academic success.

  • Lego Robotics is a club for 7th and 8th grade students who are interested in building mini robots for a competition. Club members who build the best problem solving robot wins.

  • Students participate in exciting science and engineering experiments in the classroom. Activities can be fun independent experiments that students can take home or collaborative activities where they learn to work as a team.

  • Math competitions with complex problems that require creativity, logical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving skills.

  • Acceptance in the National Junior Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle school student. Membership is based on fulfilling the 5 NJHS pillars which are scholastic achievement, leadership, service, character and citizenship. The application process occurs in the spring for students in 7th and 8th grade.

  • Our club provides a safe space for members to engage in meaningful discussions, participate in impactful activities, and collaborate on initiatives that make a difference in our school and community. Together, we work towards creating an environment where everyone feels supported and inspired to make decisions that enhance their well-being and the well-being of others. Join us in making a positive impact.

  • Science Olympiad is an exciting club where middle school students dive into the world of science and engineering through hands-on experiments and team challenges. With a focus on exploration and teamwork, members tackle various scientific topics, build projects, and compete in fun events. It’s a great way to enhance problem-solving skills and fuel a passion for discovery. Students can participate in science or engineering events ranging in topics from biology to earth science to engineering! Students study their topic or build their prototype over a period of months and then compete in the yearly Science Olympiad competition.

  • The Scrapbooking Club is designed to give students a place to work on a creative visual story/memory book. Students may share ideas, ask for help, or simply show off their work during club time. The books make great gifts or can simply be kept and enjoyed by the students. Open to students in grades 5-8.

  • Calling all eco-heroes! Join the SEEDS Club. Are you ready to make a difference locally, nationally, and globally? Are you “wild” about Nature, do you really “dig” gardening, or  are you curious about current environmental issues? Let’s learn, grow, discover and explore! Together….Island Trees can make a difference! Open to all grade levels.

  • A safe, creative space for students who love to draw and be in the company of students with the same interests.  Sketchbooks are encouraged, but not mandatory.  Students create and share each session.

  • Sports Night is an evening of friendly competition between students in grades 5-8 that are based on their advisories. Captains are chosen from the 8th grade Student Leaders. Dance teams and art committees are open to all students in grades 5-8 and begin in early October. There are no practices for participants in each event however an informational meeting will be held for those interested. Sports Night is  on Friday, November 8th from 6-8 pm. Students should listen to announcements for the start of practices.  Information on teams and tickets will be sent out in advisory and through Parent Square.

  • Students will build simple machines to compete in a class wide problem solving competition. Students with the best machines win!

  • Members of the Student Council at ITMMS and are often selected to assist with school based activities such as peer tutoring, representatives in shared decision making, organization of school dances, tours for incoming 4th grade students and are eligible to run as class officers of their freshman class at the end of their 8th grade year.

  • The Student Leader Corps is comprised of our 8th grade students who demonstrate the qualities of good character and leadership. The group has regular meetings and is responsible for the organization, planning, and implementation of community service events, spirit week/ pep rally, parent teacher conference assistance,  and many other school-based activities.

  • The World Language Club opens a door of interest and understanding of countries around the world and their respective cultural traditions. Club members will have the opportunity of exploring dances, games, art, food and celebrations amongst other great traditions.

  • Students can participate in helping create the yearbook. Members help make decisions for planning, provide creative inspiration, and help organize and assemble the yearbook.
