The Island Trees Memorial Middle School English Department strives to create a challenging and enriching curriculum based on the Next Generation Learning Standards. Students will engage in reading closely, writing precisely, collaborating effectively, and reflecting meaningfully. Our students will also develop critical thinking skills in order to synthesize information during text analysis, class discussions, research, and independent assignments. With a wide range of texts including novels, plays, short stories and nonfiction articles, students will have the opportunity to make personal connections to the world around them. Students will be encouraged to read not only for analysis but for pleasure. The English faculty is committed to developing college and career ready readers and writers by honing speaking, listening, writing and reading skills.
