The Special Education department recognizes that all students have unique individual needs, and believes that all classrooms should be intellectually challenging, motivating, safe and supportive. It is the mission of the Island Trees Memorial Middle School Special Education department to:
- help students establish the skills necessary to be successful in life, and to become lifelong learners.
- deliver quality programs where all students are empowered to reach their individual potential.
- promote student achievement through individualized plans that meet the varying needs of each student.
- offer remedial and supportive instruction, as well as compensatory strategies to foster growth and academic achievement.
- provide a caring and creative learning environment that emphasizes the social, emotional, physical, intellectual development of each child.
- challenge all students to meet the expectations that prepare them for future employment, further education and training.
