The mission of the Island Trees Memorial Middle School Social Studies Department is to prepare our students to be active citizens in a democratic society and a globally connected world. By adhering to the New York State Framework for Social Studies and placing an emphasis on historical thinking skills, our students will engage in an inquiry style approach to learning that focuses on diversity, cultural awareness, problem solving and collaboration.Our goal is to ensure our students' success by acquiring “21st century skills” that will challenge them to become problem solvers, thinkers and participants in their school, community and the world in which they live.
