The Home-School Connection (1/26/26)

January 27, 2026
Dear ITMMS Families,
Happy Tuesday! After a weekend that turned our neighborhoods into a winter wonderland, I hope you and your families stayed safe, warm, and managed to avoid too much "snow shovel back" during Sunday’s storm and Monday’s dig-out. While the unexpected day off yesterday gave us all a chance to catch our breath, we are thrilled to have everyone back in the building today.
We know that transitions can be tricky, especially when a winter storm interrupts the rhythm of the school week. Whether you spent Monday morning digging out the driveway or keeping the kids entertained indoors, we appreciate your efforts to get everyone back on track today. It’s a great reminder of how resilient our community is, and we are so grateful for your continued partnership as we navigate both the weather and the wonderful journey of middle school together.
Content of Character Month
Throughout January, we continue to center our community around Content of Character Month. Inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are challenging our students to look for ways to impact our school and community. As Dr. King once said:
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education."
The Week Ahead: From Reflection to the Spotlight
With midterms now behind us and the snow cleared away, this week is a perfect snapshot of the middle school experience: a mix of deep reflection, academic preparation, and creative energy.
-
Honoring History: We are especially honored to host Manfred Korman this week. He will share his powerful Holocaust presentation with our 7th and 8th graders, providing a profound lesson in history, resilience, and empathy.
-
The Big Stage: The energy is shifting to the spotlight as we hold Talent Show auditions. We can’t wait to see the incredible skills our students have been practicing!
-
Academic Readiness: We are also moving into our CBT (Computer-Based Testing) simulations, ensuring our students feel confident and prepared for the digital testing environment.
-
Stay Gold: Our 8th graders are heading to Broadway this week to see The Outsiders, bringing a classic story of friendship and "staying gold" to life.
A Community Effort
None of these experiences—the trips, the speakers, or the sports—happen without your support. Whether you are shoveling the driveway, checking homework, or making sure they get to school with both boots on, you are the backbone of this community.
Let’s make these final weeks leading up to Winter Break some of the best ones yet!
Have a wonderful week, everyone!
Mr. Keegan
