The Home-School Connection (3/2/26)

Dear Island Trees Memorial Middle School Families,
As we have now turned the calendar to March, there is a distinct sense of anticipation in the air. We are all looking forward to the arrival of spring, bringing with it the promise of warmer weather and those much-needed extra hours of sunlight to brighten our afternoons.
In this season of growth, I am reminded of how vital it is that we stay connected as a community. Clear communication is the bridge between home and school that allows our students to truly flourish. To that end, please remember that our Home-School Connection newsletters are always available on our school website under the "Families" tab. This weekly update is specially designed to celebrate the many successes of our students and staff, while also providing essential calendar notes and information about our upcoming programs.
Lessons from the Court
With March also comes one of my favorite times of the year: March Madness. As my twins have grown older, I’ve found myself sharing the magic of the tournament with them, recounting stories of legendary games and buzzer-beaters. While they are—at least for now—captivated by the flashy dunks and "ooh and ahhh" highlights, I find myself watching the game through a different lens lately.
In basketball, the highlight reels rarely show the screen that freed up the shooter or the unselfish pass that led to the actual assist. These plays aren't dramatic, and the crowd often misses them, but coaches and teammates know they are the foundation of every victory. These are the "intangibles" performed by players who set aside ego for the benefit of the TEAM.
Your "Highlight Reel"
I see this same "buy-in" every day in our school community. It is reflected in the tireless work of our teachers and, most importantly, in the quiet parenting decisions you make that have a profound impact on our children’s success:
-
The Encouragement: That quick note tucked into a lunch bag that gives a student the boost to work harder than they thought possible.
-
The Dedication: The time carved out at the kitchen table to review for an upcoming test.
-
The Sacrifice: The early morning drop-offs so your child can attend extra help.
Thank You for Your Partnership
Thank you for making these "small" things a priority. Your appreciation for the incremental gains your children make—socially, emotionally, and academically—is what makes our school thrive.
I look forward to soaking up the spring sunshine and continuing to work alongside you to ensure our students grow into confident learners and engaged citizens.
Sincerely,
Mr. Keegan
